Pandora drops mined diamonds
Pandora, the Danish jewelry chain with thousands of stores across the world, has decided to ditch mined diamonds and exclusively sell lab created diamonds in their jewelry designs.
While the headline is a bit startling, it's important to note that Pandora doesn't sell much diamond jewelry.
"Concerns about the environment and working practices in the mining industry have led to growing demand for alternatives to mined diamonds. Pandora sells 85m trinkets a year, but only 50,000 feature diamonds making it a small player in the gems market."
The article goes on to further stat that mined diamond sales fell to 111M carats last year, and lab created diamonds grew from 6M to 7M carats. Mined diamonds peaked at 152M carats in 2017.
