World's largest diamond mine to be expanded
DeBeer's largest diamond mine is located in Botswana. DeBeer's has a partnership with the government of Botswana, through a jointly owned company Debswana, that owns the massive Jwaneng mine.
According to Mining.com, Debswana is going to put another $6B in the mine to expand underground operations. The mine would be forecasted to produce 9M carats/yr and the extension would push out it's mine life to 20 years.
As far as recent operations, "The mine produced 3.2 million carats in the first three months of 2021, De Beers said on Thursday, which is equivalent to 41% of the miner’s total production for the quarter." according to Mining.com.
It's not all roses in the world of diamond mining, however, as soft diamond demand forced Botswana to close it's Damtshaa mine.
